Second Grade Experience First Friday Adoration
2nd Grade Newsletter September 7th – September 11
This September at Royalmont, we are practicing the virtue of discipline and the right order of things. Today during morning assembly, we saw visually that when we put the things that pertain to God first in our jar, followed by our duties and responsibilities, there is a whole lot more room in the jar for the joys that God desires for our lives. On Fi
rst Friday’s of every month, we practice putting God first by attending all school Mass followed by a special time of adoration, just for our class, where we are led in praise and worship. Our day wraps up with Benediction in which we honor God again. Our students have shown beautiful reverence during these moments and much grace throughout the day as well.
Academically, we have finished Unit 1 (diagraphs) in Reading/ Spelling. We are moving along with sentences and gaining more confidence in writing. We have learned about homophones (words that sound alike but have different meaning) with Amelia Bedelia. Next week we will begin our unit on Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit) and the author’s purpose (Parent’s rules keep children safe).
In Religion, we have read about Creation of the World and God’s most important creation: humans made in his image and likeness. We have read about the Fall of Adam and Eve and our need for a Savior. We are learning that we are made with a purpose and God wants to help us with big things and little things. We will learn that God gives us the Ten Commandments to uphold our dignity and the dignity of those around us.
In Math we are moving into Subtraction. We are understanding the value of numbers and practicing expanded form.
In Social Studies we are moving through our unit on Native Americans, learning about United States geography, resources and the shelter and clothing the Native Americans created to meet their needs.
In science we continue to read informational text and bout our vital organs and color and cut parts that will be placed on a life size poster. Parent volunteers are welcome this week to help trace the posters.
Our first Class Mass is this Wednesday at 8:35. Please join us if you are able.
IReady testing is well under way and will wrap up by the end of next week.
Thank you for sending in snacks, prizes, postage stamps and book covers. We appreciate your support for our classroom. Please remember that Spelling homework is every night and the binder and red folder should come to school each day. Math homework is Monday and Wednesday.
Have an enjoyable long weekend!
Peace and joy!
