First Grade Takes up the -CH Challenge

Hello First Grade Parents!

Can you believe it is October?

This week, we focused on the digraph -ch and the first round of red words. We wrote the -ch sound in sand, unscrambled red words, and took on the challenge of reading a decodable passage in front of the class! I am so proud of all of them. Also, we focused on the Feast Day of the Archangels, making necklaces to celebrate!

Below are reminders, important dates, and information regarding the next two weeks:

Reminders: 

  • Ms. Rose Out of Building – I will be unavailable beginning Thursday, October 8th and will return Tuesday, October 13th. I will respond to emails in order as they were received when I return.
  • Homework – Because I am out of the building two days next week, there will be no homework or spelling test the week of October 5th. I will give the substitute the homework packets to distribute on Monday, October 12th.
  • Spelling Test – Because I am out of the building Friday, October 9th, there will be no spelling test that day. They will resume on Friday, October 16th.
  • Behavior Sheet – A new behavior sheet will go home Monday, October 5th and the substitute will pass one out on Monday, October 12th.
  • Bottles for Babies: October is Respect Life Month. In light of this, we are having a Bottles for Babies drive to benefit Elizabeth New Life Center (a pregnancy center that provides diapers, formula, etc…for new moms in need). The goal is to fill the bottle with change! If we fill our bottle, the class will win a pizza or donut party! Bottles will be collected October 26th.

  • Wednesday, October 14th – CLASS MASS (change to note) and 1:30 Dismissal
  • Friday, October 16th – End of Q1
  • Friday, October 23 – NO SCHOOL (Faculty Work Day)
  • Saturday, October 24th – Fall Banquet
  • Thursday, October 29th – Parent Teacher Conferences
  • Friday, October 30th – NO SCHOOL (Parent Teacher Conferences)
