Penmanship & Organization
Hello! This week in our classes, we focused on neatness and organization. Please note that Friday, October 16th marks the end of the quarter. If a student has any missing grades, they need to be turned in ASAP. A missing grade in the gradebook is inputted as “/” for my class.
5th: 5th grade continued to study technology, specifically how technology is inspired by nature. For example, burs inspired velcro, as velcro’s tiny hooks mimic the ones found on burs. Students also created their own new piece of technology inspired by nature to help solve an issue they identified.
6th: 6th grade continued to study Thermal Energy. We learned about particle movement between each state of matter (solid, liquid, and gas). As objects heat up, their kinetic energy increases! We will continue Thermal Energy next week and take our unit test on Friday. Please note that the test grades will be input into the second-quarter gradebook. Students also practiced neat handwriting and began to organize their science binders. We will continue practicing these organization skills next week, which can also be applied to each of their other classes as well.
7th: 7th grade took their Climate test on Tuesday, and wrote authentic reflections on their study habits/efforts on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the climate test scores were lower than last test, highlighting the importance of consistent preparation and effective study habits. Test corrections and an extra assignment were given to students to help improve their grades and understanding of the material. We began studying Seasons as well as Earth’s Spheres, which we will continue next week. This week, 7th grade also practiced neat handwriting. We worked on using spelling lines to improve penmanship skills.
8th: 8th grade took their Plate Tectonics test on Tuesday, and began studying Natural Hazards on Wednesday. We will briefly cover Natural Hazards next week, as well. Students worked on organizing their binders in class on Friday, which will allow them to be more successful in science moving forward.
Thank you all for a great week!
