“TH”ere’s Exciting Learning Happening in First Grade!
Hello!
First Grade has been doing so well with their digraphs! We’ve learned sh, ch, and -th voiced. Also, we’ve done so well with our sight words, especially finding them throughout the school in a natural environment!
The next two weeks are a little different with two days off, All Saint’s Day, and All Soul’s Day. Therefore, I will be teaching the unvoiced -th and the following red words: want, with, said, put, see – over the span of these two weeks.
I will distribute the homework on Monday, October 26th and the spelling test will be Thursday, November 5th.

If you would like to support your child at home with these sounds, I recommend doing a word scavenger hunt. You would either go for a walk or car ride, make a family trip to the grocery store and have your child find words using voiced or unvoiced -th, or review previously taught concepts of -sh, or -ch. This is not required, but rather a tool to help you support your child at home.

Reminders:
- All Saint’s Day: The saint research project is due Monday, October 26th. We will then take this information and use it to form a mini speech for the children to say on stage Thursday, October 29th. Your child will dress up like their saint as well on this day!
- All Soul’s Day: Our annual trip to Gates of Heaven Cemetery is on Monday, November 2nd. Your child must be in full mass uniform for this trip to honor the deceased. However, you are more than welcome to send them with comfortable walking shoes to change into before we leave the building!
