6-8 Religion – Substantial News!
Here’s what’s been happening in MS Religion this week.
The 6th Graders have been learning about what the 4th Commandment actually means. They’ve learned that “honoring” our fathers and mothers goes far deeper than simply obeying our parents. I hope that they can provide a substantial explanation about all of the things you’ve done for them as children, and why their relationship with you will change as they age. Perhaps you can ask them about our “diaper” conversation 🙂
The 7th Graders have been learning about false teachings (heresy, that is). We talked about Docetism and Arianism, and why we even should care whether they are true or not (and what the Church did about them). We also discussed the philosophical concept of substance. Think about it: how often do we talk about “substance” without really understanding what it means?
In 8th Grade, we finally reached the end of the Old Testament in our walk-through the Story of Salvation. The kids learned about the Israelites’ Exile, Return, and the Maccabean Revolt. We discussed the Liturgy of the Word and how our readings connect (to answer the question, “Why do we care about the Old Testament in the first place?”).
The picture attached to this newsletter is from last week (not this past week). Fr. Jesus visited us to talk about the Archangels.
