Diligence and Focused Attention in HS Math

Joni Torsella · Mathematics · September 21, 2026

This week in high school math we are focusing, in silence, for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on grade, class and student ability. This practice encapsulates the virtue of diligence. Diligence means showing consistent effort in practice and review. It is very important in Math because it allows us to solve problems which may, at the start, seem confusing. But after some focused time and practice, the solution becomes apparent. It is a great way to build confidence in students.
