Fallacious Speeches, Golden Cows, and Baptism
Ecumenism
We have finished our study of ecumenism and moved on to our units on interreligious dialogue. Ask your students about which non-Christian group gets its own chapter in the book and why!
Old Testament
We are finally out of Genesis – whew! Now it’s parting seas, manna from heaven, a mind-blowing covenant…and the Golden Calf, which messed everything up. Rats. Not to worry, we’re almost to the Promised Land!
Logic
A highlight of the week was the students preparing and giving fallacious speeches. Their challenge was to combine as many fallacies in a persuasive speech about school uniforms as they could, while also sounding convincing to an untrained ear. It was a smashing success!
Rhetoric
We started our unit on the parts of speech and will be having fun with parenthesis, metonymy, hyperbole, and more. I see a lot of wordplay on the horizon!
Apologetics
After a brief foray into the book of Revelation on Monday, we had a hard-hitting conversation about baptism on Wednesday. The questions were flying, the verses were versing, and the explanations and objections coming thick and fast. I honestly found it very fun and the students performed admirably.
