Latin Teaches Students to Notice Every Detail
Latin 1
Students learned the endings for 3rd declension neuter nouns, where one small change in an ending can change a word’s job in the sentence. To prepare for Friday’s test, they reviewed how to decline nouns, give each noun’s case, number, and meaning, and translate sentences in both directions.
Ask your student: Can you translate this sentence? “Propter salutem hominum, Christus erat in mundo.”
Latin 4
Students kept translating Mark 5 in sections of about nine verses per assignment, working through Mark 5:1-27 by Friday and heading into 5:28-35 for the next class. Translating this closely means checking every word’s ending and meaning, fostering a closer attention to detail.
Ask your student: What is happening in the part of Mark 5 you translated this week, and which Latin word was hardest to figure out?
