Second Grade Was All Smiles on Grandparents Day

2nd Grade Newsletter September 28th – October 2nd

Grandparents’ Day is surely one of our favorite days of the school year.  On Friday we had as many Grandparents in our room as students and it was just wonderful!  Our students enjoyed interviewing their grandparents and finding out what their favorites are, and what is the same and what was different about their childhood verses their grandchild’s.  We learned that some things change from generation to generation, but how nice that the many important things stay the same, like the importance of family and God’s overwhelming providence.  We also did word finds, a Noah’s ark project and created a one-decade rosary.

We are cruising along in Math, learning the basics of Multiplication and enjoying every minute of it, with Mrs. McCain’s patient guidance.

In Religion class we are learning about the first sacrament, Baptism.  Fr. Jesus took the time to explain the rite to us step by step.  We pretended to baptize our classroom baby doll.  Parents, Godparents, servers, and priest were present in our Montessori Learning Lab.

It’s fun to see what our students will choose to do when they are given free time.

Tuesday: Wacky Hair Day

Wednesday: Celebrate the Decades: Choose 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90’s

Thursday: NO SCHOOL (Teacher in- Service)

Friday: Wear Friday uniform and change into School Spirit Wear after Mass.

Homecoming Parade is Friday night at 5:00.  Festivities until 8:00pm

Reminders:  Please send in ten photos of your student from birth to now so that they can build create a personal timeline.  Spelling test will be on Friday.  We’re doing Unit 3 Grade 3 words (trigraphs and three sound blends).  Homework is Monday-Thursday.  Four reading homework assignments earns a prize on Friday.  This week’s spelling tests will go home on Monday.  Please see the back of the red folder for this week’s subject content.
